Netflix now has a new adaptation of best-selling novels. It's called The Weekend Away, and it will feature a suspenseful thriller based on Sarah Alderson's novel.

Alderson will adapt the screenplay. Alderson is a prolific writer who has written 20 books, including the bestsellers Losing Lila and The Sound and Out of Control, as well as thrillers In her Eyes and The Stalker. Alderson shared the following information about the Netflix version:

“I am so excited to see The Weekend Away make it to the screen. To have adapted my own novel makes it even more special, and I am thrilled that Leighton will be bringing this character to life.”

Kim Farrant will direct Weekend Away. Farrant, who is best known for Strangeland and Angel of Mine films, was nominated in 2015 for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival.

As part of the overall Netflix deal, Erica Steinberg, Charlie Morrison, and Ben Pugh will co-produce The Weekend Away. Kari Hartfield is the executive producer. She also produces with Charlie Morrison and Ben Pugh. Here’s everything else we know about Netflix’s The Weekend Away.

What’s the plot of The Weekend Away?

Netflix’s The Weekend Away will be based on the best-selling thriller of the same name by Sarah Alderson. This is the story about Orla and Kate, best friends who overcome their personal difficulties and look forward to their weekend. They are going to Lisbon this year, everything seems perfect. But Orla awakes to discover that Kate is missing. Her frantic search for answers uncovers terrible secrets that are closer to her home, despite only having a vague memory of the night before and no help from the police.

According to the official logline, it reads:

“A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when a woman is accused of killing her best friend and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret.”

Which cast member is in The Weekend Away

Variety revealed in June 2021 that Leighton Meester (The Roommate, Gossip Girl, Single Parents) will lead Netflix’s The Weekend Away and play Orla, the main lead. Christina Wolfe, The Royals, Ziad Bakri, Batwoman, The Royals, and Luke Norris, Polidark, Have Been So Long, are among others.
